My go to short barrel for 5.56 is the 11.5”. It makes for a small package that is easy to maneuver. It has a few small benefits over the 10.5”. Such as increased dwell time and a little less recoil. The extra inch really makes a difference. The 11.5” is a great choice for a do it all short carbine.
